A Brief History of Orrstown Bank
|

Orrstown Bank, founded in 1919, began by serving Orrstown Pennsylvania and the surrounding fertile farming communities. The small bank thrived by making sound business decisions and by using a philosophy that included getting to know your customers, greeting them by name, and never being too busy for a customer. In the next quarter of a century, Orrstown Bank showed steady growth, in spite of the Great Depression. Two new large safes and additional safe deposit boxes were purchased to meet customer needs.
Orrstown Bank opened its first branch in Shippensburg in 1981 with a second location in Shippensburg following a few years later. Further branch expansion occurred in new markets on the following dates: 1994, first branch in Carlisle, 1997, first branch in Chambersburg, and 2000, first branch in Mechanicsburg. Orrstown Bank acquired The First National Bank of Newport, Perry County in 2006. Today, Orrstown Bank operates 20 branches in Cumberland, Franklin, and Perry Counties in Pennsylvania and Washington County, Maryland.
Orrstown Bank's Tradition of Excellence speaks of two key reasons for the bank's longevity and success: tradition and excellence. An example of tradition and excellence is shown in long-time employee Patsy Corwell. Patsy, hired in 1954, began her career by living that philosophy: getting to know your customers, greeting them by name, and never being too busy for a customer. To this day, Patsy still carries on this tradition of excellent customer service with Orrstown Bank.
